Forward

The preliminary leg is part of the logistics transport and supply chain and describes the transport from the sender to the logistics center for further transshipment to the main means of transport. The subdivision of the logistics chain into preliminary leg, the subsequent main leg, and the final subsequent leg applies to combined transport and groupage shipments that are not processed in direct transport. In the logistics hub, the shipments collected in the preliminary leg are sorted according to destination, condition and deadline, and then combined and loaded for transport to the regions according to recipient. In the subsequent main leg, the groupage freight is transported to the logistics center in the destination regions and from there it is delivered to the recipient in the subsequent leg.

Groupage freight forwarding companies do not usually handle the preliminary leg with their own vehicles (self-entry), but rather via subcontractors. The shipping forwarder therefore collects the groupage or general cargo in the region from the sending customers. In the hub, the individual goods are then transshipped, combined to form groupage freight transports to the respective regions and loaded accordingly. The so-called rolling costs are already efficiently distributed in advance, as several orders are collected in one tour on one truck, which then travels to the hub for handling the shipments.

main run and on-carriage

When all shipments have been collected in the preliminary run, combined into groupage shipments and loaded onto individual means of transport, the main run follows. The main leg represents the transport to the logistics center of the receiving forwarding agent in the destination region. The second transshipment takes place in the hub of the receiving forwarding agent. This is where the shipments are sorted, grouped together and loaded onto the means of transport for the subsequent leg. In the subsequent leg, the shipments are delivered to the recipient.

Groupage freight transport is the most cost-efficient alternative for general cargo. Direct transport for individual piece goods is usually not cost-effective in comparison. Translated with.
