Yannick Wölker awarded university prize of the Münster University of Applied Sciences

Are natural phenomena able to improve the maintenance of IT systems? Yannick Wölker analysed this last year in his capacity as a working student with us. In the final thesis of his bachelor studies at the Münster University of Applied Sciences, he looked for ways to make the regular cleaning up of our WinSped servers more efficient. For this, he relied on so-called metaheuristics, i.e. special algorithms for the approximate solution of optimization problems. By varying multiple parameters, the IT specialist developed a solution that shifts the process of cleaning up the servers to times when their utilisation is particularly low.

This August, the Münster University of Applied Sciences named his BA thesis the best final thesis of the past year in the Department of Computer Science and awarded him the University Prize 2020 for it. “An impressive achievement, for which we congratulate Yannick warmly,” says Thomas Roters, Head of Quality Management at LIS AG, who supervised the project as second assessor.

Irina Tappe, Personnel Officer at LIS AG, is also pleased with the result: “The fact that yet another of our graduates has been honoured confirms our efforts in training young people. It is great that Yannick will continue to be part of the company”.
