LogiMAT opens its doors in Stuttgart from 11 to 13 March 2025 – and we’ll be there. Just in time for the international trade fair, we are presenting the new CO₂ calculation function in our WinSped transport management system (TMS). Freight forwarders and logistics service providers can now calculate their transport emissions fully automatically and in compliance with standards for the first time.
CO2 calculation in WinSped according to ISO 14083
The highlight at our stand is the new WinSped function, which enables LIS customers to obtain information about their CO2 emissions. In accordance with ISO standard 14083, which defines standardised requirements and methods for calculating greenhouse gas emissions in transport and logistics chains, WinSped provides transparency about the CO2 emissions generated during transport.
“The new feature not only provides our customers with information on the emissions of entire transport orders, but also on individual legs of the journey. This allows them to make targeted optimisations to reduce emissions,” says our Co-CEO Wagner.
Automated determination via web API
Emissions are calculated at various levels. The complete CO2 emissions of a tour are determined within the graphic scheduling system. Using a web API (Application Programming Interface), the total emissions of the tours are requested from a PTV (Planung Transport Verkehr) GmbH system, where they are calculated taking into account the distance travelled, the transport weight and the vehicle used, and then transmitted back. The tonne-kilometres are then allocated to the individual stops.
Dispatchers can thus not only see how high the emissions generated by the stops are, but can also deduce how emissions can be optimised by changing the route or using a different vehicle.
The shipment research also offers the possibility of analysing the CO2 emissions of each individual shipment in detail. This calculation method is used to transparently list the transport emissions per leg of the journey and the hub emissions per transshipment location.
