Roll card

The roll card is a goods accompanying document that is used for the transport of grouped goods. The roll card is also called bordero (derived from the French “bordereau”) or freight card.

The roll card documents the essential information about the cargo. This includes data on the entire load, such as total weight or total number of pallets, but also details on the dedicated individual shipments of the consolidated load. In this way, it is possible to document exactly how the load is composed, which the freight forwarder for the groupage transport

- from one shipper to multiple consignees
- from multiple shippers to one consignee
- from multiple senders to multiple recipients

loaded.

As a necessary and important goods accompanying document, all the data of the individual shipments of the consolidated shipment are recorded on the roll card. This includes the sender, the consignee, the goods description and also exact specifications on how to handle the shipment until it is received by the consignee. The information on cash on delivery or franked consignments must also be entered here. The roll card as a whole is the evidence document for the consignments of groupage transportation.

Shipment documentation with the roll card

In the case of a single shipment delivered directly from the consignor to the consignee, an ordinary delivery bill attached to the shipment is sufficient. In the case of a consolidated shipment, the roll card is used as an overarching delivery document for the entirety of the shipments. The consignee must countersign the complete and flawless delivery of the consignment intended for him on the roll card. If the consignment shows damage in transit or if shortages are found, the consignee cannot sign for this. In this case, the type and extent of the damage is documented accordingly or the missing quantity is noted and the cause is investigated.

The freight forwarder also uses the roll card to document the logistics services it has provided. In this way, the individual shipments can then be billed to the corresponding clients.
