Interview with our apprentice Fabian: The first months at LIS AG

Interview with Fabian Hötschl, apprentice IT specialist (m/f/d) for application development

Hello Fabian, you began your training with us on the 2nd August this year. Please introduce yourself briefly and tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m Fabian Hötschl, I turned 20 in October and I live in Greven. After my training as an information technology assistant, I applied to LIS AG for a dual study programme as a Bachelor of Science with training as an IT specialist for application development because I would like to combine study and practice.

How would you describe your first months at the company? How did your colleagues welcome you?

Since I already had previous knowledge through my first training, I was allowed to write a programme of my choice right at the beginning. After that, I was gradually shown most of the internal processes and was able to familiarise myself well with all the topics. Thanks to my friendly, open and helpful colleagues, I arrived quickly and well. We also get along well in private and therefore have a lot of fun during work.

What is your daily work routine like?

We also have flexitime during the apprenticeship. I therefore start work between 7 and 9 am. This then includes fixing bugs in the software or developing new functions. During the lunch break, I usually sit down with my colleagues in the large staff room, which we internally call “the casino”. There we exchange about everyday life and current interests.

Which tasks do you particularly enjoy in your training / What do you like best so far?

I particularly enjoy discovering solutions to mistakes. On a personal level, I think it’s great that we are on the same page in the team as far as our sense of humour is concerned.

What did you expect from your training and did your wishes come true?

My expectation was to get a better understanding of how a professional programme is built. That has come true just as much and I am looking forward to everything that is yet to come.

What would you not have expected before? What came to you as a surprise during your training?

There were a lot of little general coding tricks that I learned that I didn’t know about before. Actually, I assumed that my life would be more stressful after school. I thought I was expected to be able to do everything immediately. Fortunately, this is not the case. I am trusted with many tasks, which I also manage to cope with, and if something doesn’t work out, I receive support immediately.

What else do you hope to get out of your training?

The most important things for me are the following: That I continue to have fun at work and that I can still learn a lot.

How did you decide on your apprenticeship?

I had the desire to work in the field of computer science at a very early age, as I was always thrilled when my father was doing work on PCs.

How did you hear about the LIS?

I came across LIS because my family’s company uses the WinSped software.

What do you like about LIS AG as an employer?

In my opinion, the employees are simply treated well and receive further education. In addition, there are flexible working hours and several offers and opportunities to do sports, such as a dedicated sports programme or gym membership. In a job that only happens behind a desk, I find a sporty balance very important.

Would you recommend the training at LIS AG to others and if so, why?

I can definitely recommend the training I am doing here. The overall package – challenging tasks, a great team and that people believe in you and support you – are the most convincing reasons!

Thank you very much for the interview, Fabian!
